CONSERVATION

1) ALUMINUM CANS are 100% recyclable, can be recycled over and over again, and after being recycled can be back on the shelf in as little as 60 days

2) GLASS is made from sand, limestone and soda ash. Using recycled bottles to make new bottles requires much less electricity and natural gas than starting anew and reduces air and water pollution. It can take a million years for a glass bottle to break down in a landfill. Recycling glass, however, can be done endlessly.

3) PLASTIC BOTTLES are recycled once and then discarded, unlike glass and aluminum, which can be recycled repeatedly.

4) NEWSPAPERS, junk mail, and other paper products -- all are recyclable. In 2003, half of all paper used nationwide was recovered for recycling.
